Free Cattle Yard Designs 

Building new cattle yards? We have created three basic (free) designs below, all designed for great cattle flow and making your animal handling easy. 

Points to note when designing your new cattle yards.
  • Rails should be a minimum of 1600mm high
  • All corners should be boarded of where possible, this will eliminate the cattle bunching in the corner
  • If using wood, post should be a maximum of 2 metres apart and at least 800mm in the ground
  • Drenching races should be a maximum of 750mm wide 
  • Placing the entry gate against an existing fence makes it easy to get your cattle into the yard

Yard Size
It is important to make sure your yard is big enough for your requirements.
Here are some guidelines for pen sizes.

Basic Cattle Yard Design 

This plan is the minimum requirement for safe cattle handling. 
A great design for the small block holder, will allow you to easily handle a small number of cattle.

Medium Cattle Yard Design 

Similar to the above design, this yard has a drenching race and also a loading ramp.
An extra sliding gate is required at the end of drenching race.

Large Cattle Yard Design 

This plan has two pens and the ability to draft from the crush.
Also there is a lead in race to the loading ramp to help cattle flow.
