An ATV,(or farm quad or 4 wheeler) is one of the most useful pieces of equipment a farmer can have. With the addition of a few accessories they can carry all sorts, from hay for feeding out, fencing gear, tools, firewood and with the addition of a trailer and crate - young calves and sheep - the uses are never-ending! 

We would all like to have a shiny new ATV in our shed but unless you are a full-time farmer and plan on using it most days the cost is hard to justify. Buying a second hand ATV is the best way to go for many lifestyle block and small farmers, so here are a few pointers on what to look for in a second-hand ATV:

A night drive into town a few weeks ago revealed a high numbers of rabbits down our road; imagine my surprise when there was three sitting in my driveway awaiting my return! 

And so, it's time for some rabbit control!

As I'm surrounded by neighbors, I thought it best not to resort to controlling these furry little beasts the old fashioned farming way (with a shotgun). 

With the cost of supplement feed for your animals ever increasing its makes sense to keep wastage to a minimum, here are six ways to help:

• If possible only feed out what will be eaten in one day, if the feed is around for longer than this it is more likely to get into the ground.
  

With the days getting shorter and the temperatures slowly reclining summer is drawing to an end (sigh). It is time to start planning your annual fertilizer regime.  

Autumn is the best time to apply fertilizer as most paddocks are easily accessible this time of year and will provide a boost for your grass before winter.
