Are you ready for the new bobby calf regulations?

14/4/2017

As you may know, there are new regulations coming into effect on the 1st of August, requiring calves to be walked on and off transport. We have just launched our new Calf Loading Ramp, which has been designed for this purpose. It is 750mm wide with big cleats to provide secure grip for young calves. We have put solid one piece ply sides on it to help with flow and to protect your calves legs. We are already selling more of these than expected, so if you need one of these better to contact us sooner rather than later. Check it out the ramp here, .
For more information on the new regulations check out the Dairy NZ website here.

Cheers,
Euan

New Headbails for 2017!

After many hours designing, prototyping and testing we are proud to introduce our new Standard and Heavy Duty Headbails.

The brief was to make a new design that could be mounted in a left or right hand orientation, be easier to adjust, be taller to reduce the gap under the unit and off course to look good!

Here is how we did it:

This headbails are all supplied as right-hand units, as in the photo.
To change it to a left-hand model all that is needed is a 16mm or adjustable spanner, undoing 3 bolt and moving the latch tongue and ratchet handle to the other side.

WorkSafe: the benefits of steel yards

8/8/2015

It's good to see WorkSafe are recommending using steel yards on their 'Safer Farms' website.

Here's what they have to say on their site.

The benefits of steel yards
Steel yards with concrete floors make handling cattle a lot easier and safer, especially steel head bails. However, they can be noisy – reduce the noise with well-placed bits of rubber.

Steel yards are rugged, they don’t break, they’re low maintenance and easy to clean. If you’re building new or refitting your existing yards, steel yards are a good option.

You can see more on their Safer Farms website here.

At Kiwi Cattle Yard's we're proud to produce yards that can help make your cattle handling safer and more efficient.

Some of our safety features on our yards include:
  • Anti-bruise rails on all contact areas
  • No sharp edges
  • Easily and safely operated by one person
  • Hands-free closing on our gates with our specially designed slam latch
  • We use high tensile steel railings that won't break or bend.

If you'd like to find out more about our safety features then please get in contact.

Cheers,
Euan

An ATV,(or farm quad or 4 wheeler) is one of the most useful pieces of equipment a farmer can have. With the addition of a few accessories they can carry all sorts, from hay for feeding out, fencing gear, tools, firewood and with the addition of a trailer and crate - young calves and sheep - the uses are never-ending!

We would all like to have a shiny new ATV in our shed but unless you are a full-time farmer and plan on using it most days the cost is hard to justify. Buying a second hand ATV is the best way to go for many lifestyle block and small farmers, so here are a few pointers on what to look for in a second-hand ATV:
